History
I love history. After a couple of decades as a Primary School teacher, I now work part-time within Heritage Learning. Any trip I go on will have to involve some aspects of history but don’t give me a stuffy old building with glass cases containing objects that I can’t touch. I need interaction, I need stories, I need history brought to life.
Art
I don’t enjoy an art gallery. I get that people love them and that is their personal taste. They are just not for me. My husband does like art galleries, so sometimes I have to go for his sake. If you like art galleries, then you may have to research these separately.
Wildlife and Nature
I like a view of countryside from the car but my mobility limitations make it impossible to enjoy immersing my self in it. You don’t see a lot in my 1/2 mile walking limit so I don’t bother trying to. But then I am not exactly a gardener or an animal lover so maybe I don’t make the effort. I have long been a towny anyway. Loads more distractions for me in a buillt-up area. Having said that, I have been to many zoos and wildlife sanctuaries. You have to put the odd one in between the historical monument to keep everyone happy.
Food and drink
A lovely meal out and a couple of glasses of wine, within a historic setting or a pretty square, is the perfect way to spend an evening in my opinion. Also, I am always happy with balcony and a pretty view for sunset with a cold beer. None of this needs to cost a lot. High class restaurants are wasted on me. A delicious bargain is much more appreciated.
Something New
I rarely visit places that are more than an hour from home, more than once. (I work in many of the closer ones!) To me I would never choose to repeat a visit, over seeing something new. I am tallying the countries that I have visited and have only amassed 24 so far. (I count a visit as leaving the airport or I could claim more.) This number has to rise and I won’s manage that by going back to the same places. Having said that, I do love Greece and Spain is very close and convenient both in time and budget so it has to be done again, just a different part. All these new places put me well out of my comfort zone- hence the planning. By the time I get somewhere new it is not really new at all.
My Limitations
All the above needs to be accommodated in a way that I will cope, but that also my family will be relatively happy with my choices. I like to let them thing that they have been give a choice and an opinion, yet as the kids rarely bother researching for themselves, assuming that it is sorted, I usually get my own way.
